A message from our host about tonights gathering :
our focus of these get togethers are for folk to meet each other, for potential vendors to see the grounds and get a chance to ask the owners/developers any and all questions they want, a time we can start to build a sense of community among us by talking, having our kids meet and play together in a safe environment, drink a beer or two, listen to music, share our best eats with one another in an ol' fashion pot luck style dinner, drum around a campfire, dance, howl at the moon, have fairies take us through a midnight walk of these enchanted woods, etc.
all that is expected of attendees are these things:
--bring the best of yourself to the gathering
--be respectful of others and the kids
--don't drink and drive
--as with the spirit of the Burning Man, bring something of yourself to share in the building of a tribe
--offer your ideas as to how to make Sherwood a success
--bring a pot luck tray of some kind, if time permits, to share with others
should be plenty to drink
should be good entertainment
should be enough folk with drums to result in a midnite drumming circle
there are lots of trees and one portapotty
a hike on the other side of green woode stage, there are showers
plan on camping, if you'd like
we are sure there will be plenty that will even tho its hot a blue blazes
feel free to bring friends and family

LARGE Austin Renn Faire,Spring of 2010,now welcoming acts and actors
There have been Faires in Lockhart and Bastrop before... but this is something of a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MAGNITUDE.
Never before has there been a faire with an AUSTIN based cast located on ONE HUNDRED ACRES of land (25 acre initial faire site, 18 acres of parking and LOTS of room to camp.. and grow) OWNED BY THE FAIRE so that vendors can be SECURE IN THIER IMPROVEMENTS and performers and Rennies in Austin will FINALLY HAVE A FAIRE OF THEIR OWN.
The Faire site is 40 miles East of Austin located ON Highway 290... no narrow rough back roads here.. this site has direct highway access. On-site camping will be permitted free of charge in the Participants Camping area. Toilets and showers will be available during the entire run of the Faire—weekdays, as well.
Tell your friends and faire family, and join us in building Austin’s OWN first rate Renaissance faire which will be opening in the Spring of 2010!
You are invited to Join the The Sherwood Players as we meet to practice and plan at a convenient site in Austin every Wednesday at 6:30.
While Formal auditions for specific acts and roles are likely to start in July or August, we invite you to bring us your talents and ideas now in these informal practice and planning sessions where Rennies will get to stretch their performance art and both absorb and create the spirit of this new fair.
We'll be assembling a diverse cast including not only the expected RobinHood/Sherwood Forest/Nottingham roles such as Robin of Loxley, Little John, Friar Tuck, and other Merry Men, Sheriff of Nottingham and his deputies and not only the usual Lunatics, Peasants, Lords and Ladies, but also Gypsies, Fairies, Elves, Dark Elves (Drow), Trolls, Goblins, Ogres, any creatures of fantasy, Musicians, Wenches, Pirates, Crusaders, the Pied Piper, and more…
During the first year, the Sherwood Forest Faire Acting Company we'll be casting approximately 20-25 compensated positions for proven professional Fairefolk who can infuse the spirit of faire into the festival and mentor the less experienced cast, as well as 30+ apprentice roles who will be provided food and drink vouchers for use during the Faire..as well as free camping.
All levels of Performers will be required to audition, attend all practices and of course perform all days the Faire is open. Additional stipends may be available for participating in pre faire promotions.
This Faire will be Participant-friendly and will donate a portion of its profits to Rescue, the 501©3 not-for-profit which assists the Rennie community with emergency health care needs.
For more information and for entertainment and vendor applications visit: http://www.sherwoodforestfaire.com/
Reply to firstname.lastname@example.org for directions to the Auditions/practices.
If you have an independent act that you would like to us to consider booking at our festival, please email to email@example.com to discuss opportunities or schedule a formal audition.

Austin is getting a REAL renn faire of its own... THIS IS DIFFERENT FOLKS!
Sherwood Faire Opening Spring of 2010... its the real deal.. and if you WORK faire or VEND faire or have an ACT for faire or just want to be part of the a cast.. theres room to get in the ground floor...
Its opening in the spring of 2010 at a site 35 miles from downtown Austin
This weekend i took a site visit to the site of the Sherwood Forest Renn Faire... spread the word.. its the most BEAUTIFUL faire site I've seen in years.. and the faire seems to have both the soul and the backing to make it the best faire in TX...
and theres still room on the ground floor.
let me just say this is NOT 'excaliber 2.0' or anything like that... the guy starting BOUGHT and owns the land.. 105 acres of prime forest 35 miles from my front door in Austin... (opening year will be using a fraction of the site) covered in huge trees AND .. heres the miraculous part.. a glacier must have dropped a gift from the gods there because the faire site.. despite being so forested there may not BE any direct sunlight in the greener part of the year is geologically situated on top of 30 feet of hard packed SAND... there will be NO MUD .. EVER. on the fairesite... three minutes after a torrent you'll be walking on relatively dry ground... (IE perfect drainage.)
AND THEY ALREADY HAVE THE ROADS IN.. metaled surfaces.. and such are already in place EVEN THOUGH THE FAIRE doesnt open until Spring of 2010. I remember clearing parking lots and paths down to the last minute on some faires)
The directions as simple as 'get on 290 going east, 15 miles past Elgin take a LEFT turn on "Old Potatoe Road" .. and turn into the parking lot. really , thats it.
THATS not the really big news though.. the BIG news is this guy has both the dream, the brains AND the resources... to make this a BIG faire in its first year. I asked for a figure on his advertising budget AND IT BLEW MY MIND... I should have asked him if i can repeat that number.. and in fact, I'm going to but he estimates a FIRST YEAR DRAW of 30,000-40,000 patrons in a six weekend run. Normally i'd take that to be wild optimism.. BUT hes GOT THE ADVERTISING BUDGET to make it happen SO...
I dont know if the fairly dismal and drearly showings at Excalibur and its sucessors has burned you out on fair vending.. but if it hasnt and youre just waiting for a fair WORTH your investment in time and effort JUMP ON THIS ONE....
I'm not officially affiliated with this faire (yet) and have no stake.. but I'm passing on FIRST HAND knowledge.. things I saw with my own eyes, or got straight from the horses mouth. . whether as a vendor or as an act or an actor... if youre interested in faires at all.. you WANT a piece of this faire... http://www.sherwoodforestfaire.com/index.html
an unusual (and good) amount of emphasis is being put on a Childrens area for entertaining kids... and on Faeries in general for the faire.. not an afterthought or outcasts but an integral part of the ideas and plans... I think this one not only has the budget of a real business to get it started.. but also has the soul of a faire. So faire folk.. get in touch and see for yourself. You want in on this one.

So,whats the scoop at this point? anyone know?
apparently canceled and I cant imagine that doesnt come with barrels of finger pointing and loads of drama.. but in general, what happened to this lovely little faire and what are our odds for 2009?

Fantasy Faire Weekends, March 11-April 2, 2006
|Friday, December 30th, 2005|
Amazingly Enough I havent seen this info here yet... Excaliburs new site...
Hopefully everybody else has heard that Excalibur faire has a great new physical site near Luling/Lockhart. Easy driving distance now for San Antonio and San Marcos (lots of university students there) and no further from Austin.
I havent seen the site yet but at a recent alamorennfest event I heard some good things about it and am looking forward to helping with prep at least a couple of weekends during the coming months.
As I understand it, George is the new owner, and while I think the holidays have kept him busy and the transition has been taking some time, he's probably still getting the hang of delegating which is why 'random guy who used to know george and go to excal a few years ago' is taking it ENTIRELY on his own to say to the other folks on the list (on the odd chance you havent heard)..
The faire is alive and well and living in Luling TX. It seems to be in good hands and there is (so I hear) great on-site camping again too!
hopefully the official announcement folk will get on this stuff soon... just posting what I've heard at first hand (some from George, some from folks who've been to the site).. Really really looking forward to Excalibur this year...
hopefully March weatehr will be kind too.
(Disclaimer: I'm not a member of any inner circle nor authorized by anyone in any way...please feel free to comment, update, or add to this post with any first hand or at least directly sourced knowledge you have... )

Updage from a vendor
Hi folks, for anyone who's still reading this - I'm a vendor, and as far as I know I haven't signed any non-disclosure agreements ;) , so here's what I know:
1) Sometime over the summer the people in charge decided to add an extra weekend onto the faire. Having seen our attendence numbers for the past four years, and noticing little growth over the past three, I think this is shooting ourselves in the foot, but that's just my opinion.
2) Whoever owns Rocky Hill Ranch decided to either not renew our lease or kick us off somehow. So we're looking for a new spot. Vendors with buildings have spent the past month and some going out to the grounds on weekends to tear down their buildings. Hopefully we will find a new spot, and the advertising people will actually buy a billboard along a major highway instead of the dinky signs they've always had... (can you tell I'm nervous about advertising and attendence growth? ;) )
